Pidvarky
Western shore with large water bodies and a bypass channel. Reedbeds and shrubs.
On the western shore of the reservoir, Pidvarky offers views over large water bodies and a bypass channel. The water is branching here: open stretches alternate with reed beds and low scrub. This is one of the most convenient sections for watching waterbirds on the west side of the route.
In spring the first ducks and geese appear by the channel, and kingfishers and ospreys hunt over the water. In autumn terns, herons and gull flocks are common. On calm stretches of the channel you may find mergansers and mute swans. Early morning is especially good for birds feeding near the reeds.
Practical tips
- Best watched in the morning, when birds are active near the water.
- The bypass channel offers varied angles. Walk along the shore strip.
- On open water, flocks appear as movement on the horizon. Staying in one place makes them easier to follow.
Best season: March–May and October–November
